Andy Ward was unveiled as the new boss at Belfast Harlequins and said he would take his coaching lead from former Ulster mentor Alan Solomons.
The former Ulster and Ireland flanker officially takes over from Andre Bester on 1 June, but is already involving himself at the club.
''Alan Solomons had been the biggest influence for me in my playing career,'' said the Kiwi-born Ward.
''He had a great coaching prowess, and excellent man-management skills.
''He was a great coach, but his mangement of players was second to none.''
Ward has yet to name his back-up staff but Ryan Constable and Neil Doak are favourites to work alongside the Ulster icon.
He also plans to make Deramore into a family-orientated club when he takes over for his three-year term.
''I would really love to see Deramore as a real family club where everyone can come to support the team. I would like to see entertainment for all ages at the club.
''But ultimately the goal for myself, the players and everyone at the club would be to win the All-Ireland League title.
''It is the shop window, and the players will work very hard not only to better themselves, but also to make Harlequins the best club in Ireland.'' |
