Randalstown 2XV 24
Belfast Harlequins 5XV 10
As half the team were in Cardiff, Stephen Deyermond compiled the following report for the match against Randalstown which was an early kick-off and being played for 4 league points.........
Sorry to let you all down on Saturday but the morning was some what shambollock.
The first thing you could say about the backs is that they wouldn't be your first choice selection.
The build up was hampered by the facts a. nobody told the ref KO was 12. 00 so we had warmed up and peaked by KO time B. nobody explained to Philly Wilson you don't go to Randalstown (situated conveniently off the M2) via the M1 Lisburn and Antrim!! Lenny and Chris also decide to turn up after the designated KO time. c. they put out their firsts against us.
Anyways, they started well, a score with their first touch would be considered a reasonable start I suppose.
We rallied well and after their number 8 picked up and sprinted for a try from the half way with Phil and Garth patting him on the back on the way through, we responded well with a good break and score from Mecus.
In fairness we caused them lots of trouble from turn over ball (bearing in mind we had 13 1/2 men) with Neil and Mecus breaking. Tristan and Chris kicked through intelligently and but for the lack of tackling in our outside centre position (3 tries) the result would have been very close. No blame can be attributed as Guys helped out at the last moment and played out of position.
We battled hard in the forwards making hard hits, fighting and turning ball over but sadly a lack off penetration outside Mecus showed, tellingly illustrated by Garth passing and being intercepted over their try line!!!!
In keeping Dick of the day must be a tie with Phil Wilson for his navigational skills and Garth Hunter for conceding 3 tries and having one intercepted over the line.
Team: 1. Lenny Young (fresh from playing for the 6th's the night B4!!), 2. James Graham, 3. Marko McCartney, 4. Stiggy Waterworth, 5.Jodie Wylie, 6. Mark Crowthers (lasted 10 minutes), 7. Deano Collins (supberb), 8 . Stephen Deyermond (supberb!!), 9 Neil Wallace, 10. Mecus Martin!!! (played admirably with a spasm in his back), 11. Angus Mills, 12. Chris Davis, 13. Garth Hunter, 14. Tristan Kinnear, 15. Phil Wilson.
Man of the Match: Dean Collins for the amount of turnovers one, the only ball we one all day.
Dick of the Day: Philip Wilson / Garth Hunter
